A stormy journey to the Kingdom

With a storm rolling in and the weekend looking like a washout, a good friend and I refused to be kept indoors. We had been chatting about this trip for a long time and Dan had always wanted to take his 1993 mk2 Polo on the famous Conor Pass. It is one of Ireland’s highest mountain roads and its narrow one lane weaves its way around cliff faces and waterfalls, all while providing astonishing views. With coats and cameras on board we set off on our road trip. The Final destination was to be Dingle, Kerry.

We were met with mixed weather but more importantly, on arrival to the Conor Pass, it was empty, bar the odd die hard tourist (ourselves included), we had the stage. The rain held off long enough for a few quick photos and then it was on to Dingle.

To our disappointment most of the shops and cafes were closed due to the incoming storm and the off season. We settled for some coffee from the local supermarket and parked at the harbour to plot out the days remaining light.

With a surprise ease in the weather we made the drive to Inch Beach for golden hour. What greeted us was glorious, a sun soaked beach covered in sea foam and to top it all off, once again, not a soul in sight. We backed the Polo up against the alluring backdrop and out came the cameras for the final time. As we sat in the cafe just off the beach enjoying our coffee, the rain and darkness forecast made an appearance. All that could be done was laugh. We had somehow managed to avoid the storm. Sometimes you just need to take a chance, what a journey.
